The festival Zvolen Castle Plays is a unique event for all lovers of theatre art. It is considered as the oldest plain-air professional theatre festival in Slovakia. It takes place at the Zvolen castle every year and offers the best performances of domestic and foreign theatres.
The Jozef Gregor Tajovský Theatre has organized the Zvolen Castle Plays since 1974. It offers a broad spectrum of interesting performances of various theatre genres for its visitors every year. In addition to dramatic part the programme is very popular. All age categories can get their money`s worth every year.Besides performances for children and the youth, the Slovak and foreign theatre companies prepare also performances of contemporary drama, poetry put on the stage and interesting author`s works. The festival is attractive with its connection to historic atmosphere of its setting that is the historic court of the Zvolen castle with its unrepeatable spirit. During the day, the visitors can see exhibitions, and in the evening, they can enjoy performances under the open sky.
