The Museum of Žitný ostrov in Dunajská Streda was founded in 1964. The Yellow Mansion House has been its residence since 1970. The Museum building is a cultural monument.
The museum owns ethnographic, archeological, historical, and natural collections mapping the region of Žitný ostrov. A permanent exposition situated upstairs documents the former way of life of people in the region, presents ethnographic material such as peasant kitchen, kitchen with an open chimney, peasant room, gold panners´ working tools, spinning and weaving tools, a room from Martovce, various objects from the life and activities of guilds, old weapons, coins and stamps.
Among other interesting exhibits there are xylographies by fish master Mikuláš Tápéi of Dobrohošť. On the ground floor of the building there is an exposition of archeology and paleonthology. Expositions of fine arts and ethnography take place in the exhibition hall of the museum.
