The via ferratas on Zobor offer an adrenaline adventure with a view of ancient Nitra

If you’re looking for a challenge combined with beautiful panoramas that together form an unforgettable experience, the via ferratas on Zobor are a great choice. They are located under the Pyramída peak in the Tribeč mountains directly above Nitra and offer an ideal combination of adrenaline and natural scenery. After conquering them, you will be rewarded with beautiful views over the city and its surroundings.

The via ferrata area in Nitra was set up in 2022. The idea of building via ferrata routes came from members of the Nitra Mountaineering Association, who have been using the local rocky terrain to practice movement in a rocky environment for more than 10 years. In 2024, the via ferratas were expanded to include additional routes. Currently, there are seven of them with varying levels of difficulty:

Bojnice is an ideal place for lovers of mountain biking. In its near vicinity are five cycling trails and two cycling circuits for beginners and professionals. You’ll also find a skill park here, the only one of its kind in Slovakia. However, thanks to the Technical MOTO Museum you can also explore the surroundings of the spa town by riding in a vintage car. The museum offers several beautiful, elegant and timeless pieces, and car rental always comes with a driver.

In the Horehronie (“Upper Hron”) region, you’ll be surprised by cycle trolleys and speleotrekking in the Cave of Dead Bats

You’ll experience a true adventure with the wind in your hair on the Horehronie cycle trolleys, on which you can pedal on unique bicycles running on rails. The route runs along the railway line of the forest narrow-gauge railway with the possibility of transferring to the Čiernohronská railway.

Powerful off-road electric scooters, with which you can conquer even more challenging terrain, are an excellent aid for getting to know the surrounding nature and a pleasant refreshment on the upcoming sunny days.

The Stredné Pohronie (“Middle Hron”) region is also an ideal place for those seeking out adrenaline and adventure in nature. Bike lovers can enjoy their favourite hobby in the Drozdovo bike park near Nová Baňa, where downhill trails full of jumps and sharp turns for experienced riders, as well as easy routes for beginners or children, await them. And you don’t have to pedal up the hill; you can take the ski lift up with your bike.

Turiec

The surroundings of Martin are a paradise for lovers of climbing

The Turiec region offers excellent opportunities for climbing activities in a beautiful natural environment. If you are a fan of climbing, be sure to visit these famous spots:

  • Platňa in the Gaderská dolina valley – ideal for beginners and intermediate climbers. This climbing area offers mostly slab climbing with good friction and a gentle slope, making it popular with those who want to improve their technique and balance. You’ll find well-secured routes here with difficulty levels ranging from 3 to 6 UIAA.
  • Kaškova veža tower in Blatnická dolina valley – a challenge for more experienced climbers. This rock tower offers more demanding lines with significant overhangs and technical passages. The area is known for its solid rock and beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The routes here range in difficulty from 5 to 9 UIAA.
  • Skalka in Sučany – a popular spot suitable for all levels of climbers. This area offers a wide range of routes from easy beginner lines to challenging sporting routes. Vertical and slightly overhanging lines with great friction and excellently secured routes are characteristic here.
  • Havrania skala rock in Necpaly – a climbing area with varied terrain and beautiful views. This limestone wall offers 39 routes of varying difficulty, including the technically demanding VITAE 10/10+ line. The walls are oriented to the north, which enables climbing even in the summer months. The longest route is 33 metres long and requires a 70-metre rope. This area is not suitable for a visit by families with children.

Get your adrenaline pumping with mountain biking and rafting in the Spiš and Pieniny regions

Fans of mountain biking will find what they are looking for in the smaller single-trail resort Cyklostopy, located in the urban forests of Stará Ľubovňa under Oslí vrch peak. The trails here are named after animals and offer various levels of difficulty. The easiest route is “Srnčia stopa” (“Roe deer track”), suitable even for less experienced riders. More experienced cyclists can enjoy the “Jelenia stopa” (“Deer track”) with gentle climbs and beautiful curves. The “Líščia stopa” (“Fox track”) offers a more adrenaline-charged challenge with rougher terrain full of stones and roots. There are also banked curves on the “Vlčia stopa” (“Wolf track”) or a jumping trail called “Medvedia stopa” (“Bear track”) for the most daring riders.

For those who are looking for a unique adventure, the Slovak Opal Mines offer an unforgettable experience in the form of an experiential tour “In the footsteps of old miners”. With headlamps on their heads visitors explore on the four-hour journey through darkness the most interesting corners of the underground passages, which stretch to as many 35 kilometres; they can also try mining the gemstone with traditional tools, as they were used 150 years ago. This physically demanding but fascinating experience allows you to understand the hard work of miners firsthand. The tour is ideal for groups of friends or colleagues, but it requires advance booking.

Join the loyal fans of forest cycling in the Košice district and become familiar with the local community of cycling enthusiasts. The second largest urban forests in Central Europe hide a network of singletrack routes of differing levels of difficulty, which are regularly enjoyed by riders from all over the world. You’ll find the majority of them in the picturesque Bankov recreation area, which has a strong historical tradition and where you can take your bikes directly or by public transport.
