The starting and final point: Námestie SNP square

The walk in Banská Bystrica starts at the central Námestie SNP square adapted to the pedestrian zone. Its atmosphere is unique and apart from the Clock Tower also the St Francis Xavier church and the Thurzo House which shelters the Central Slovakian Museum are of interest.
In the lower part of the square is the Dolná ulica street which is the prolongation of the pedestrian zone. Among its several burgher houses the Bethlen House from the 14th century is the most attractive one. In the lower end of the street there is the St Elizabeth church. The underpass in the southern row of houses on the square leads to the Národná ulica street which ends next to the river Hron. The Národný dom (National House) stands in this part of the town centre. Beside other also the State opera seats in this building.
Walking around the Námestie SNP square you will arrive at the higher situated Námestie Štefana Moyzesa square with the town castle and return to the starting point. The route can be extended by the visit to the Monument of the Slovak National Uprising, part of which is the open-air exhibition of historic heavy armaments. The way to get there leads from the Clock Tower down the Kapitulská street where you turn left.
