From winter to spring

Various festivities, balls, feasts and hoedowns belong to the Carnival period. From Epiphany to Ash Wednesday, it represents winter to spring transition followed by fourty days long period of fasting. It is characterized by dances, processions of masques, masquerades or pig-slaughtering. Did you know it dates back to times of festivals for Greek deity of Dionysus, god of wine? Feasting, partying and gaiety were the way to forget about everyday sorrows. The Carnival with its unbridled merriment and joyfulness became soon very popular. No wonder. We are never too young or old to have some fun.
