The railway track between Pohronská Polhora and Tisovec is the unique technical structure. The trains had to overcome the altitude difference in the area of the mountain saddle by means of a rack.
The railway track between Pohronská Polhora and Tisovec exists since 1896. It was built for the iron works in Tisovec. The railway track climbs the mountain terrain with great altitude difference.
The inclination of technically most demanding section next to the mountain saddle Zbojská is in places as much as 48 ‰. Parts of the track which is an interesting technical work are two impressive viaducts: Čertov and Pod Dielom.
On October 4th 2014, a steam train set off for the first time in fifty years along the cogwheel railway line from Tisovec to the Zbojská mountain pass. Today, this line with its gauge of 1 435 mm has become unique in Europe thanks to its steam train.
From 2015, you will be able to travel on a steam train from May to October on the first Saturday of the month along the Tisovec – Zbojská section. Further information on www.zubacka.sk.
