Water is one of our most precious raw materials and one of the most important substances for human life, which is why it is often nicknamed “blue gold”. Despite the fact that Slovakia is a region rich in water and healing mineral springs, we are not always aware of their value. This is not the case in the region of northern Spiš – Pieniny, where the unique idea was born to develop a mineral springs tourist route entitled the Mineral Springs Route.

The route with a total length of 100 km links together 12 of the most important mineral springs in eleven towns and villages: Bajerovce, Červený Kláštor, Forbasy, Hniezdne, Hraničné, Lacková, Legnava, Litmanová, Nová Ľubovňa, Sulín and Vyšné Ružbachy.

Thanks to the route, visitors can discover, see as well as taste the best that the region has to offer. The springs are suitable for drinking regimes, have a differing composition of minerals and help with various medical problems. Every tourist can find their “own” spring. For example, the spring in Ľubovnianske kúpele is suitable for sportsmen and women; the Smerdžonka spring is good for the skin; it is said in Litmanová that the spring purifies one's spiritual side. An interesting attraction on the route is the Kneipp therapy: a foot bath which can be tried out by the springs in Vyšné Ružbachy and in the village of Lacková.
