The tradition of the sanatorium in Tatranská Polianka specializing in the treatment of respiratory system diseases dates back as early as the 19th century. Tatranská Polianka is located 1005 metres above sea level, in the forest zone in a slightly cold area. Due to dry air, a favourable sunlight ratio, lower air pressure, lower oxygen pressure and moderate day temperatures without major variations, the climate in the Tatras is perfect for patients with lung diseases.
As many as five percent of Slovakia's inhabitants suffer from asthma, while another 10 percent of the population have allergy-related problems. Many of them regularly undergo treatment in this sanatorium, which provides medical and spa treatment for patients with non-tuberculosis diseases of the lung, chronic cough and other diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract. A professional specialized team of doctors and nurses looks after clients 24 hours a day; they help to improve the health and restore the overall wellness of their patients using various forms of therapy (inhalations, massage, electro-therapy, etc.).
