As the name suggests, this region lies next to the upper reach of the river Nitra, which connects the northern and southern parts of the region. The main communications run parallel to its stream. The region of Upper Nitra is known above all for its cultural-historical heritage.
The gem of the region is the fairy tale-like Chateau of Bojnice. It is the most visited and one of the most beautiful historic monuments of Slovakia. Several manors (in villages Brodzany, Malé Bielice, Klátová Nová Ves, Veľké Uherce, Chalmová, Čereňany, Zemianske Kostoľany, Diviacka Nová Ves) and ruins of medieval castles (Topoľčany, Uhrovec) are parts of the rich history of this region.
The region also offers good opportunities for cycling, hiking, skiing and relaxation and therapy in its spas.
