The substantial part of the landscape corresponds to the system of riverbeds and arms surrounded by alluvial forest and wetland. The whole natural complex is regularly flooded. The most important phenomenon of the PLA is today the rare and extra valuable water and swamp biocenose unique in Slovakia.
The character of the natural landscape, which depends on water, is favourable to waterfowl which uses this PLA not only for permanent nesting but also, in case of migratory birds, for short rests. Occurrence of the rare swamp tortoise in this PLA inspired the authors of the PLAs logo.
