The fictitious "Matúš's Kingdom" is situated in the western part of Slovakia. This project revives the rich history of this area that is based on numerous legends and myths, castles and chateaux. It presents this history to both Slovak and foreign visitors in an unusal manner.
The fictitious "Matúš's Kingdom" is situated in the western part of Slovakia from Orava region to the River Danube and it covers certain parts ofBratislava, Trnava, Trenčín, Nitra and Žilinaregions. On its western side, it borders the Czech Republic, with its eastern boundary being formed by a stripe connecting the Orava Castle, theBojnice Castle and the town of Štúrovo.
Its territory includes more than 1,100 towns and villages. This project revives the rich history of this area that is based on numerous legends and myths, castles and chateaux. It presents this history to both Slovak and foreign visitors in an unusal manner.
The Kingdom's inisgnia include a constitution, a flag and a seal. Those who are interested can apply for a tourist passport and gradually become familiar with 53 picturesque castles, chateaux and manor houses. The passport enables its holder to travel the Kingdom's nine dominions and be presented with stamps from passport checkpoints of 53 castle estates and more than 100 pilgrim points.
The Kingdom's extramural settlements feature a large number of the so-called Hlásky(mostly information bureaus), where you can gain information about what is going on in the Kingdom, events that are being prepared, and where you can also buy souvenirs. After a long pilgrimage you will certainly appreciate the so-called Pilgrim Points(Pútnické miesta) of Matúš's Kingdom (accommodation and catering facilities), where all hungry, thirsty and tired pilgrims will be catered for.
The centre of Matúš's Kingdom is made up of the Park of Miniatures in the village of Podolie, where model reconstructions of Slovak castles are being made, corresponding to the shape that they had 300-500 years ago.
