Do you often go by car, train or tram and you certainly do not feel like doing so when on holiday? Get into a horse-drawn coach and enjoy the untraditional ride in the countryside. The swinging trot of horses will calm your thoughts and make your spirit high.

The feeling that nature is within the reach of hand is nearly palpable. It is not restricted to summer time either – in winter there is the horse-drawn sleigh alternative.

The High Tatras offer the opportunity of such a ride, for example the popular ride around the tarn Štrbské pleso. In the Pieniny Mountains the horses will drive you back to people´s dwellings after successful wood rafting. There are also other beautiful routes in the High Tatras or other mountain ranges, such as the Low Tatras, the Slovenský raj Mountains, the Malá Fatra Mountains or the Veľká Fatra Mountains.

Almost every owner of a ranch provides coach rides or horse-riding. The best quality horses are bred in the National Stud Farm in Topoľčianky. During the annual open house (1st May and the last week of December) one can not only see the precious breeds but also try riding on them. Horses are traditionally part of various folklore festivals, historical or country festivals, fairs or events organised by open-air museums.
