In Modrý Kameň stands a rare chestnut orchard with the largest number of edible chestnut trees, which brought fame to this region. This prickly titbit – the CHESTNUT – has become a much sought-after delicacy and has made Modrý Kameň famous as the “capital of chestnut goodies”. The Slovak National Museum – Museum of Puppet Culture and Toys at Hrad Modrý Kameň castle and the town of Modrý Kameň itself invite you to the unique Chestnut Festival event. Starting at 10:00 a.m., the aroma of chestnuts will fill the manor house courtyard, and inside the manor house, visitors can have fun in the play area and try their hand at controlling different types of puppets. In the creative workshop at the museum, they’ll create the castle mascot Gaštanko, and as part of the crafting workshops, they can try making wooden toys under the supervision of an artist. They can also experience life in the Middle Ages, historical archery and period games in the castle moat with members of the historical group the Valravn Clan.
