Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen! Indeed He is. The Easter has really a mystical touch in this part of Slovakia. If you come to see for yourself to Stará Ľubovňa Castle as well as the open-air museum, its Eastertime expositions will easily prove it to you.
As usual in the recesses of the
castle and the
museum beneath, visitors have the opportunity to have fun and learn a lot about the castle and its
surroundings. Demonstrations of folk habits and traditions related to
Easter, but also to birth, wedding or
Christmas can be found in particular houses of the open-air museum under the majestic
castle overlooking the
region.
Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox. As the most important Christian holiday it is rich in customs and traditions varied from region to region. Celebrated in the same time as pagan celebrations symbolizing the end of winter and arrival of spring, many customs from the pre-Christian period remained being mixed together with the Christian ones.
