As it does annually, Day of the Folk Traditions and Pasties event will take place in the compound of the open air museum of the Museum of Ukrainian Culture in Svidník the second Sunday of September. Look forward for international competition in preparation of pies, exhibition of fruits and vegetables, bee-hives, bee aids, bee products, presentation of customs and handicrafts, and of course tasting of "pirohy".
European Cultural Heritage Days in Slovakia begin in September. This year, the event will be held in nearly 50 European countries under the motto Shared Heritage, which is mutual with the celebration of the European Year of Cultural Heritage. Popularizing the local
cultural heritage, the
Museum of Ukrainian Culture in Svidník is a long-time partner of the event and traditionally on this occasion, Day of Folk Traditions connected with the international competition in the
cooking of pirohy, traditional food in
this part of the country, is prepared in the open air museum. This year, it will be the 23rd season.
As every year, you can expect a manifold
folklore-ethnographic programme with many artists, including Makovica Folklore Ensemble or Piňazi De? feat. Makovicky divky, this time connected with a premiere of the video clip – O polnoci jánskej noci... Soloist of the Poltava Philharmonic Orchestra, the meritorious artist of Ukraine Mykola Harmash, will also perform.
Everyone will have a chance to taste local
traditional food "pirohy" from the Chairman of
Prešov Self-Governing Region, to win something in raffle and have an opportunity to have some refreshment in a waggoner's tavern. In museum, they haven't even forgotten families with children, so the little ones will have a fun on the creative playground. The presentation of traditional craft production, including processing of wood, clay, metal or skin, bee products, breeding and mini-breeding exhibition, advice services of hobby associations as well as folklore dance will be a part of the event.
