Bratislava’s UFO restaurant on the Slovak National Uprising Bridge is mentioned in the German publication entitled “Crazy Places .Die verrücktesten Restaurants, Bars, Event Locations und Hotels der Welt“.
The daily newspaper presented the book about the craziest places in the world. “The UFO restaurant lying above the Danube on a slanted pylon of the asymmetrical suspension bridge is one of the “crazy places” in the eponymous book,” says the caption under the photograph. This was chosen as the only illustration from the publication by German writer Birgit Krols, the author of “Crazy Places”.
The Slovak National Uprising Bridge (SNP) was the first asymmetrical cable bridge to be built in Slovakia and the second of this type in the world. The steel road bridge with its unusual shape is suspended on a pylon which is 84.6 m high. At its top, there is a panoramic restaurant in the shape of a flying saucer. The bridge was built from 1967 to 1972 to a design by A. Tesár, J. Lacko and I. Slameň.
