To celebrate the 120th anniversary of its foundation the Slovak National Museum is opening a representative exhibition of the history, personalities, specialised administration, everyday life of museum workers and the most valuable collections in funds of this important national institution. The exhibition will run from 5 December 2013 until 29 November 2014.
The storyline of the exhibition project is the history of the museum seen at variuos stages of its development - from the Museum beginnings in Martin before 1918, linking up with Bratislava history, personalities and a cross-section of collection-forming and exhibitory activity of individual specialised museums under SNM administration.The second part of the exhibition - Treasury - presents the most precious of the depositories of all components of SNM (autograph of the Opera Krutnava by E. Suchon, the oldest in Slovakia preserved collection of dried plants - Cyprian herbarium, incomplete skeleton of mammoth furry, Celtic Biatec, a general's cap of Milan Rastislav Stefanik, an ancient Egyptian mummy from Luxor and many others).
Some collection objects especially from the aspect of their protection and long-term preservation may be exposed only for a certain time, therefore, for this part of the exhibition, the concept of varying the most valuable exhibits was chosen.
