The biggest international festival of contemporary art in Slovakia has become the most important cultural event of Košice. This year, the 10th edition of festival will take place in the metropolis of Eastern Slovakia the night before the International Peace Marathon.

White Night offers visitors the opportunity to take an unconventional artistic tour of Košice by night, full of new experiences and sensations. On the first weekend in October, night becomes day as the streets of the city will be filled with people and art.

White Night is a prestigious international art project designed to raise awareness among the public about contemporary forms of art and to bring such works to untraditional, unrecognized and yet significant European cities. It first started in Paris in 2002, and was visited in 2013 by over two and a half million people. From its beginnings in Paris, the project has expanded over the years to such places as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Santa Monica, Montreal, Toronto, Rome, Tel Aviv, Gaza, Jerusalem, Madrid, Brussels, Riga, Bucharest, Amsterdam, Brighton, Turin, Naples, St. Petersburg, Košice and Bratislava.

White Night embodies the desire to (re)discover urban environment which is given a new dimension through art. A city is transformed into an interactive space whose usual nocturnal cycle ceases to exist for a few hours. Contemporary art breathes life into the city at night and the night thus becomes “white”.

Being one of the most beautiful autumn events in Košice, it celebrates its 10th year. During the festival, you can experience an untraditional artistic walk through the night city, full of experiences and new perceptions. On prolonged weekend 4th to 6th of October, the night turns to a day and the streets of the city fill up with people and art. Each visitor gets an artistic map that guides him or her through various art spots such as the visually attractive installations, concerts, films, various theatre plays, dances, literature and live performances.
