The walk around Martin known as the centre of the national emancipation and the centre of the cultural life since the mid-19th century starts on the Námestie SNP square next to the former County House from 1740. It is now the seat of the Turčianska Gallery.

Not far away from the National house stands what was the first building of the Slovak National Museum (today it is Turčianske Museum of Andrej Kmeť). The second building of the Slovak National Museum stands on Malá hora. It is from 1933 and now it houses the Ethnographic Museum.

You should not miss the visit to the National cemetery, atmosphere of which is quite impressing. Many famous Slovak figures above all writers and poets are buried here.
