Increasingly popular beer routes now in Slovakia

Local brewery tours are specific to Belgium, the UK, the USA, and Australia, as well as our neighbour – the Czech Republic. However, the beer wave is now spreading to Slovakia, too, with beers brewed in small breweries at the centre. Thanks to this production, the offer has spread to various beer styles. In addition to lagers, top-fermented beers are also becoming more and more popular.

And the vocabulary has changed, too. We're not just getting the 'ordinary' light or regular beer anymore, but also the light Wywar Martin lager or the Kaltenecker Chopper IPA.

Artisanal and restaurant breweries, beer bars, and tasting bars have been emerging across Slovakia. There you will find boards informing you about which beers are currently on tap. Just go inside and start tasting.

Beer routes also represent a new type of tourist attraction. Would you like to know how beer is made? Want to meet face-to-face with a brewer and taste individual beer varieties?

Preparing an experience for guests is a little different than merely brewing beer, though. However, some breweries delight in acting as a host. That way, a visit to a brewery transforms the act of getting a simple beer into a true experience.

The following breweries, among others, offer a brewery tour in combination with beer tasting as part of their services: brewery Kaltenecker in Rožnava, malting plant and brewery Sessler in Trnava, and brewery Lanius in Trenčín with its special tasting menu.

Each brewery tour is combined with a tour of the production premises: crushing plant, brewing plant, and beer maturing plant. That way, you'll learn more about how water, malt, hops, and yeast are used to produce this beverage with light alcohol content – beer. You'll also learn the art of correct beer tasting, and participate in a competition. Simply a wonderful, authentic experience – you'll watch the process of beer fermentation, pull it from a tank, and learn all the essential information at the same time.

If you don't want to worry about drawing up a plan, if you want the certainty that you'll see the backstage of a brewery, meet the brewer and find out a lot about brewing and the individual varieties of beer in addition to tasting, you can approach a beer route organiser.

Have a wonderful experience discovering artisan beers across Slovakia.
