A family of gigantic snowmen emerges in the Tatras

Visitors arriving at the final stop of the 15-seat gondola lift at the Skalnaté pleso lake can take a photo with this friendly family and take home a precious memory from the base of the Lomnický štít peak.

The huge amount snow needed to build these gigantic snowmen had already fallen before Christmas, but this family of giants appeared just a couple of days ago.

The snowman family of 4 – mum, dad, and two kids was built by 6 professional builders.

The man behind the idea is Adam Bakoš, a sculptor from the Tatra Ice Dome at Hrebienok.

The snowmen reach 5.5 metres in diameter. 175 m3 of artificial snow was used to make the 7-metre-tall snowmen, weighing approximately the same as 33 passenger cars and making an average-sized skier feel like a dwarf.

The family of giant skiers is expecting and will soon welcome a new snow baby by the end of the winter season.

At the end of 2015, ski resorts launched their daily après-ski programme. For the past several years, the programme has offered an exclusive candlelit dinner under the name Tatra Dinner of Experiences.

Guests arrive at the venue at an altitude of 1,170 metres above sea level for their 5-course menu in a truly non-traditional way – by a taxi on the slopes. A specially modified snowcat brings visitors to the starting station every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Lovers of fresh corduroy and literally untouched slopes can enjoy the feeling of that first-ride euphoria before the official opening of the lifts every Thursday and Sunday via the Fresh Track programme.

With Fresh Track, the ski day starts as early as 7 a.m. This one-of-a-kind experience on these virgin slopes is topped off with breakfast served at Skalnaté pleso lake.
